The first thing to do is stop using gcc 3.*.  Why did you switch to it?  It is
still viewed as rather provisional.
Next, note that in general gcc sef-faulting is often a sign of hardware
problems.  Do you have ECC memeory?  Search /var/log/messages* for any NMI's
if you do.  Also look and see if you got any complaints there.  Probably most
importantly: is the segfault consistently repeatable?
Of course I have no experience doing cross-compiles.
