Debian sid = unstable, always.  Debian sarge = testing, until the next
release at which point sarge will become stable.

No problem.  We hope all is well.

We found the bug with the help of another friend who uses Debian.  It
turned out to be a VMware bug causing strip to behave incorrectly.
